THE GENESIS of LONGSHORTSTORIES

Monday, March 31st, 2008

I have been wanting to share with you just how LongShortStories are born. The time is right to do so, so here goes.

LongShortStories are fictional snippets of the greater world around us. They are drawn from many different places, such as:

Real life

Unreal life.

Independent cinema

Foreign films

Social commentary

The edges of life

Small sidebar newspaper stories

Science

Psychology

Business

Dreams

Documentaries

Native American spirituality

Mythology

Web research

Bible parables

Oral storytelling tradition

Art

Music

History

Humor, both light and dark

Personal experience, including my involvement in Amateur (ham) Radio

Pure imagination

And the list goes on …

I am the messenger and my message is simple. I want to connect with my readers in a very personal way. As a part of a community. The Web allows me to do just that.

LongShortStories are my creative gifts to you, the avid short story reader and admirer. You have gone out of your way to find me here and for that I am very grateful. You are dismayed at the mainstream press for dropping short fiction from its content, in favor of more and more advertising and worship of the bottom line. You are hard-core. You are my kind of fan.

So, friends, please feel free to hang out here in the land of LongShortStories, to savor short stories and flash fiction that defy genrefication.

We need each other, you and I. You have my wordsmith promise. I will always strive to give you something new.

Thank you!
